Organizan: Bristol Indigenous Peoples Support (BIPS) en colaboración con Enlace Mapuche Internacional (MIL).
Este evento político cultural se efectuara inmediatamente después de las deliberaciones del Grupo de Trabajo sobre Pueblos Indígenas de la ONU, evento mundial que se realiza anualmente en Ginebra, se espera que varios delegados indígenas extenderán su visita en Europa para tomar parte en este importante evento internacional que se realizara en la ciudad de Bristol, Inglaterra.
El Festival Indígena de Bristol se sitúa dentro del marco del Decenio Internacional de los Pueblos Indígenas del Mundo, (1995-2004) que fuera proclamado por la Asamblea General de la ONU el 21 de diciembre de 1993, cuyo objetivo principal es fortalecer la cooperación internacional para la solución de los problemas que afectan a los pueblos indígenas en áreas tales como: derechos humanos, medio ambiente, desarrollo, educación y la salud. Se esperaba además que la Década Indígena sirviera para crear conciencia en la opinión pública internacional sobre la importancia que tiene para mantener la paz y la convivencia entre los pueblos, el respeto de los derechos humanos y libertades fundamentales de los pueblos indígenas.
El Festival Indígena incluye, conferencias, paneles, muestras de videos, exhibición fotográfica, artesanías y pinturas, música y bailes indígenas.
Apertura del Evento
La apertura del evento estará a cargo de Linda Fews en representación de BIPS y Reynaldo Mariqueo en representación de MIL, quienes darán la bienvenida a los participantes.
Conferencia
Dirigentes indígenas provenientes de diversas partes del mundo presentaran al publico la realidad de sus pueblos, también se espera la presencia de expertos en asuntos indigenas, quienes expondrán los obstáculos y avances obtenidos a nivel de Naciones Unidas y los mecanismos creados dentro de la Década, tales como la Declaración de la ONU sobre los pueblos indígenas y la creación de un Foro Permanente de los pueblos indígenas dentro de la estructura de la ONU.
Entre los delegados mapuches se destaca la participación de Luis Llanquilef quien expondra la situación del pueblo Mapuche.
Tarde Cultural
El sábado 26 de Julio por la tarde se dará inicio a la parte artística del programa, con la participación en vivo y en directo de grupos de música indígena que incluye grupos desde el lejano Oriente al Cono Sur de América con la participación por primera vez en Inglaterra del grupo de música y danzas Mapuche Ayekantun (entretenimiento).

An Exciting New Free Festival & Conference Comes to Bristol!

An exciting new indigenous festival is coming to Bristol featuring a varied line up of workshops, short videos, exhibitions and food of an international flavour available to buy and savour! Saturday evening promises to come alive with performances from around the world, music and dance from the Orient to the Americas! On Sunday come and be entertained by the celebrated Aboriginal storyteller and artist Francis Firebrace.
So make a date if you would like to make a Lakota dreamcatcher or learn to play a Tibetan drum, learn about North American spirituality or hear aboriginal dreamtime stories then this festival is for you.
The Indigenous Festival & Conference (IFC) is being organised by Bristol Indigenous People Support (BIPS) an organisation that works to provide an information network of support for all indigenous groups. BIPS is working in collaboration with Mapuche International Link (MIL) a Bristol based organisation that works to support the Mapuche, who are the indigenous people of Chile and Argentina.
We wanted to hold the IFC this year, because 2003 marks the last year of the UN International Decade of the World’s Indigenous People. A decade in which it was hoped that partnerships between the worlds indigenous people and the European Community & USA would be strengthened. It was hoped that during this decade the rights of people whose ancient cultures are being lost to increasing commercial interests would be heard and their legitimate right to existence be recognised.
The IFC will come at the end of a week of representations to the UN in Geneva and consequently we are in a unique position to invite delegates to speak at the IFC. Luis Llanquilef, the 2003 Mapuche delegate to the UN, will be among the delegates addressing the conference on Saturday.
“This free festival will be as much fun as it is informative, and is for everyone in Bristol! We welcome parents who want to have a fun day out with the children, to students who would find the IFC beneficial to their studies. There really will be something for everyone!” Said Linda Fews from Bristol Indigenous People Support.
We are providing a crèche and there will be a free bus running between the centre and the outskirts of the city. The Create Centre also sits on the National Cycle Network and is easily accessible by bus.
