Estimado Señor Presidente,
Como académicos preocupados y autores de muchos países, estamos escribiendo para apoyar la iniciativa del Ecuador de no extraer petróleo del Yasuní-ITT.
Como miles de otros ciudadanos del mundo, miramos esta iniciativa como un paso pionero en la lucha internacional por una civilización pospetrolera. Nosha inspirado la determinación de los ciudadanos ecuatorianos que estánrejuveneciendo la iniciativa ante su decisión de abandonarla.
En este sentido, estamos extremadamente preocupados de que su gobierno estéreprimiendo las voces de la mayoría de los ecuatorianos que continúan apoyandola propuesta Yasuní. Entendemos que se podría estar bloqueando la posibilidadde que haya una consulta popular sobre esta cuestión, que la libertad deexpresión estaría siendo coartada, y que el ejercicio del derecho de losestudiantes de disentir está siendo amenazado con la expulsión de sus colegios.
Continuaremos siguiendo el debate en Ecuador con la esperanza de que unasolución en democracia a este tema pueda ser encontrada, y que la propuesta dedejar el petróleo en el subsuelo en el ITT, así como el respeto de los derechosde los pueblos indígenas, no muera.
